NT NB Scan

Category Ultrasound

Nuchal Translucency (NT) and Nasal Bone (NB) scan is a prenatal screening test performed during the first trimester of pregnancy, typically between 11 and 14 weeks. It involves an ultrasound examination to measure the thickness of the nuchal translucency, a fluid-filled space at the back of the fetus's neck, and to assess the presence or absence of the fetal nasal bone. These measurements, along with maternal age and certain blood tests, help estimate the risk of chromosomal abnormalities such as Down syndrome and other genetic conditions. A thicker nuchal translucency or absent nasal bone may indicate an increased risk of certain chromosomal abnormalities, prompting further diagnostic testing such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis for confirmation. NT NB scan is non-invasive and does not pose any risk to the mother or fetus. It provides valuable information for expectant parents to make informed decisions about further testing and pregnancy management.
